Summary
A simple Slow, Slow, Quick, Quick is the secret of an exciting and cool-looking 6-count swing dance from the 30s and 40s: The Shag. Shag is easy to learn. With its hops and kicks it is a lot of fun. If you like to have close contact to your partner and still don't want to miss the energy of swing then Shag is the dance for you. Mostly danced in closed position, but also with open and separating elements, Shag can be danced to medium and fast-tempo music.
Shag spread all over America and different styles were popular in different regions. This video is about the Double Time Shag that was often referred to as Collegiate Shag. It should not be confused with Carolina Shag or St. Louis Shag. Even though it was a separate dance, Shag can be easily mixed with other Swing Styles.
Marcus & Bärbl have been teaching classes and workshops in more than 15 countries all over the world. They were given the prestigious Feather Award in 1996 and 1997, and the International Dance Teacher Award in 2002. Among their many competition titles are: World Champions, three times World Vice Champions, US Open Champions and Rock n Socks Marathon Champions. They are also the organizers of the World famous Rock That Swing Festival in Munich, Germany.
